(2002) Any business plan, every business plan,
must acknowledge a number of contexts:
1. Source of supply for essential services and supplies,
2. Means and costs of transport,
borders to cross, tariffs and sanctions,
3. Market uptake, potentiation and confidence,
buying power, diversity,
4. Production means, kinds of skills, education and training,
levels of automation, tools and equipment,
sequences and inventories,
5. Economics, capital requirements, buffers
and contingencies, distribution lags,
6. Taxation and infrastructure,
water, sewage, disposal, fuel and power,
communications, roads, security,
7. Climatic and geological factors,
liability to flooding, drought, fire,
earthquakes, volcanoes, pollution.

(2002) For centuries, for millennium, we have, more and more
put our faith in the means.
We have concerned ourselves with surfaces and with form.
We have neglected energies and forces.
Cheap and Familiar Eclectic Spaces
There are few, superficial, biocathodic spires
or bioanodic domes or pools.
Human habitation has come to be characterized
by the cheap and the familiar.
We don’t acknowledge exquisite function, carefully observed.
We assemble eclectic spaces.
We embellish austere forms and tolerate their discomfort.

Business or commerce is a conditioned exchange.
Business involves needs and values.
Needs relate to functions.
Some would expand the range of business or commerce
to include wants and desires.
Some would even regard wants and desires
and the ability to influence those wants and desires,
as a part of business or commerce.
Sustainability
At this point, consider, as economic conditions decline,
what segment of business most quickly subsides?
Life essentials tend to retain some value and be sustained,
even when other kinds of business or commerce declines.

(2002) We are expectant of an ever familiar gradualness.
We are conditioned to there being a sufficient gradient,
a gradient that allows us time: time to stop,
time to change directions, time to move.
To stop, to change directions, to move or even to accelerate,
are all tactical manoeuvres.
Tactical manoeuvres are sometimes spontaneous,
with little readiness or little preparation.

(1988) Environment Canada reported: the Prairie drought
this year,
is just a mild dry spell
compared with what is coming.
The greenhouse effect
is the principal agent of this future experience.
Billions of dollars
and tens of thousands of jobs
are involved.
